Strategic Planning

Infohealth's approach is a flexible, proven methodology based on our extensive experience working with community hospitals, integrated delivery systems, academic medical centers and physician office practices in the United States and Canada. The focus of the planning effort is alignment of information technology (IT), processes, and staff resources with the organization's strategic business plans.

This approach is predicated upon the importance of building consensus among the staff to ensure creation of an optimal information management and technology strategy. Developing the strategy focuses on the major business and patient-oriented processes of the organization rather than solely on departmental requirements. Emphasizing the use of multidisciplinary teams from both Infohealth and the client, we reach consensus and decisions that benefit the entire organization. These decisions are most effective when they are owned by the sponsors and the end-user community, and can be implemented in a reasonable time frame.

Infohealth's experience indicates that better results are achieved when organizational goals supersede departmental goals, and the IT strategic plan is driven by business needs. Additionally, when the selection of applications and supporting technologies is based on the organization's business needs and governed by the guiding principles for IT, the action plan for implementation is linked directly to the organization's vision, mission, and business initiatives. With this linkage, processes are in place to uniformly set priorities, identify and mitigate risk, and prudently deploy capital and resources. These steps ultimately lead to minimizing the impact upon the organization while maximizing benefits.

Tactical Planning

The two most common reasons for project failure or cancellation are 1) a poorly defined organizational strategy; and 2) the lack of a well designed process to filter out low-value projects. Infohealth works with clients to ensure the success of periodic planning cycles. Any of the following tasks can be a starting point for prioritizing technology projects, depending on the methodology that was utilized to initiate the project:

Creating a business-aligned project/program portfolio is a key deliverable in this exercise. Other deliverables include:

IT Optimization

The Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) provides an IT process framework, the adoption of which is widely accepted as a best practice for IT regulatory compliance and service management. ITIL can be somewhat difficult to decipher, and seems ambiguous in terms of how to implement the best practices. Knowing what is only part of the equation - knowing how is where Infohealth brings real value to its clients. Our INFOMAP assessment tool focuses on finding opportunities for the application of ITIL.

Infohealth's IT Optimization practice uses these primary goals for achieving operational excellence:

Infohealth understands the power of building an organization on the principles of people, process and technology, and that no one discipline can stand alone. Understanding your processes, developing human capital and deploying enabling technologies are the cornerstone to operational excellence.

INFOMAP Assessment Tool
Over the past 5 years, Infohealth has developed and refined a proprietary diagnostic and assessment tool called INFOMAP. INFOMAP is a comprehensive set of questions and critical requirement points, administered by a HCIT professional. The 250 point survey and interview notes are then scored against our best practices database. This review of IT functionality provides a point-in-time profile of your current IT environment.

What does INFOMAP achieve?

The INFOMAP approach is focused on the 5 elements of good IT service: assess, plan, manage, support and measure. Where appropriate, responses are validated through documentation reviews and interviews with key stakeholders.

INFOMAP Employee Skills Assessment
Your investment in technology and in the professional staff that supports that technology are both critical to the success of your organization. An IT department must have team members with the appropriate experience and technical skillsets necessary to provide both depth and expertise in the design, development, and support of the installed applications and infrastructure enterprise-wide.

Infohealth's INFOMAP Employee Skills Assessment provides a methodology for analyzing the overall skills of information technology professionals. The Assessment Process increases the value of your investments in IT support resources by appropriately identifying and analyzing the skills and ability levels of your current IT staff. The final report includes the identification of gaps in service and opportunities for enhancement.

The major areas of focus in this assessment include:
